Keynote Presenter Russell Hillabrand Speaks at Tutor Expo ’18: Santiago Canyon College on April 13, 2018.
Orange, CA–On April 13 and 14, 2018, approximately 260 educators (mostly community college tutors) from 39 colleges and universities gathered at Santiago Canyon College for two days of workshops, presentations, and dialog about all things learning assistance. With more than 40 presentations covering a wide range of topics from motivation to ESL tutoring to online tutoring, participants relished the opportunity to meet colleagues from across campuses to share, to bond, and to plan for the future.
In response to an evaluation question about what participants enjoyed, one person remarked, “It was great! The presentations were practical and interesting. It felt like things I could use on a daily/weekly basis. The host college was wonderful. The classrooms were clean and organized. The breakfast and lunch were well set up, and there were veggie options!” Another participant enjoyed the sense of community, “I liked that I got to see a new college campus and also meet tutors from all over southern California.” Another commented on the inclusive nature of Tutor Expo: “The collaboration between SI, tutors and faculty alike. It was hard to distinguish between the two and that was wonderful to see.”
